Michael David Layne is a diverse performer, writer, and producer.

Michael began performing in high school at Concord Academy as a modern dancer and later went on to perform with Mikhail Baryshnikov in the White Oak Dance Project.

Michael graduated from Colgate University with a degree in Anthropology and French Literature and studied abroad in Venice, Italy and Dijon, France. While at Colgate, Michael performed with SMuTCo (the Student Musical Theater Company) and was one of the original founding members of the co-ed a capella group: The Resolutions.

Michael went on to study music at the New England Conservatory and then received a Master’s in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from The Boston Conservatory and performed in the chorus of the Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Aperta, Opera International, and the Washington Opera.

Michael shared his love of the performing arts with others working for the Education Department at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Michael then went on to work at Brown University, where he began teaching voice privately to students, faculty members, and children of staff members. Michael also taught voice at the Boston Arts Academy, the city’s public arts high school.

Michael’s teaching brought him to LA, where he worked as a vocal coach and A&R consultant and enrolled in the Musicians Institute’s Independent Artist Program. Michael’s students have gone on to sign deals with Warner Bros., Capitol, Cash Money, Universal, and Sony.

As a songwriter, Michael has written songs with Grammy Award winners; licensed songs for television and film; performed at LA venues including the House of Blues and Universal City Walk; and his single, Take A Look, received radio airplay in France and Italy.

As a SAG-AFTRA actor, Michael achieved success in commercials and booked his first commercial audition: a series of PSA’s to stop smoking. Michael has appeared in several national commercials, most notably for Bud Light, Nissan Murano, and Lunesta, which included billboards in Times Square and an online game featured as “Drowsy David.”

Michael has recently written and directed a dramedy web series about the music industry titled: ‘A Cappella.’

Michael is currently producing, writing, and directing for film and television as Hushed Intensity Productions.
